Hey.  I guess the question on everyone's mind is: who's on the team and what have they worked on?

Glad to see you guys wanting to create a city simulation that truly takes your customer base into consideration. I can't wait to see what you all have been working on.

I am very excited about this games potential! I have a question regarding the proposed time frame of this project. It shows delivery as Nov 2013. That's only 6 months away. Do you think this will be possible given the magnitude of this project (assuming you get the funding you need). Unless of course the Nov 2013 time frame is for beta.
I look forward to this!

I noticed the team has worked on wide variety of games ("We have worked on several recent AAA titles such as Mortal Kombat, Darksiders 2, Borderlands 2, Quake 4, Section 8, F.E.A.R., and multiple IOS and mobile titles. Not to mention several unreleased games, some older titles, and some that are still TBA.").

I noticed that there are very few management or simulation games, such as a Sim City, Railroad Tycoon or similar. How does the team feel about making a game that seems to be outside the genres of their work in the past?

Hello Team...   :)
Congratulations on the forum opening,
I feel privileged to be involved in the early development of Civitas.
Its going to be fun playing it from the first start, then waiting on updates etc. :)
Hoping to be able contribute more funds than I have already pledged as time passes..
Rock on November lol

More specifically, as a lukewarm "semi doubter", I want to ask the following questions about each of your team members. If each member could respond themselves with a short bio, that would be very helpful.

1) Full name
2) Qualification / education
3) Previous employer(s)
4) Position at that company (including details of responsibilities)
5) Other relevant achievements or information

Hoping to be impressed!

My guess (pure speculation) would be alpha, but judging by the teraforming tools it is possible for beta or even.. and i mean if these guys work their asses off.. full release

Seeing the title of this thread I expected an introduction of at least a few of the team members with some background information. You seem to be very reluctant to give us the information we are asking for in order to get some more proof of your capabilities and experience in the gaming industry.
On the kickstarter update #2 you say the answers will be found on the forum, but there is still no information to be found here.

I would like to urge you to provide the information you promised to give as soon as possible. Seeing the comments on the kickstarter I expect your pledges might double instantly after a proper introduction of the team. When I pledged I really believed in your dream of making a GOOD city sim, but your evasive behaviour and promises not kept have made me doubt this project more and more. Just knowing who I'm supporting will be a big step in winning back my trust.

The guys are probably hard at work fleshing out websites and such but if someone could take 20 mins out of their day to post an intro to the team we (along with your Kickstarter fund) would thank you generously :)

copy and paste from the kickstarter comments:

I really, really, really, REALLY do NOT want to turn into a doubter but where are the intro's from the OTHER members of the dev team.

You are always speaking for the entire team.

Even on the forum it's you who speaks in the meet the team thread. I want to believe, I really really do, I want to support, to pledge, to be part of something special but you have to give me something to go on here!

I said before I wasn't too worried about all the credentials of the dev team because people could be added to the team after you got the $250k but I AM worried if you are the ONLY person in the dev team....I would be very worried if that wer the case.

Honestly, if there IS a group of six where's the other 5 people at? They haven't said a word anywhere yet...? Wouldn't all six of you be together right now working around the clock running off cold pizza, red bull, and adrenaline/excitement with no sleep trying to put all this together?? Where are the intro's from the other five? I have only seen you, only heard from you, ever.

Don't want to show their faces...fine. But I *need* to see them introduce themself on the forum and hear their voice on a video.

As a bare minimum that should happen today. That should be more important than answering any other questions or proving anything else.

So far the amount of progress I see every day, to me, looks like one man working his butt off.....not 6.

Again, I am not a nay-sayer! I pledged $25, not $1 and I haven't lowered my pledge, I WANT to pledge more, I really do. I want this to be possible and be part of the community that helps make it happen but right now it is looking like, even if this is your dream and you are serious about this, you are a one man show.
I think we ALL need to hear the multiple voices of the dev team as well as atleast their SN's on the forums.

You have an awesome chance here to create something special and the perfect time to make it happen.

Please stop being as elusive as Bigfoot because I AM a supporter!

Hi guys,

This isn't going to make any of you feel better but I wanted to pop in and say hi anyway.

I will be one of the Civitas developers if we get funded (and probably even if we don't get funded). I wish I could give out personal details but due to current employment I can't get into any of that or past work. If you wish to stop reading right there, that's understandable.

For those still reading, Brandon had contacted me a while back regarding a wish to create a city simulation game. At the time I thought it would be a fun project but wasn't sure how serious he was. I was already in the final stages of another  game and continued to focus on that.

Time went on and it was clear Brandon had become completely invested in bringing Civitas to life and I agreed to come on board as a developer and help out whenever I could. Funding this project will allow us to work on the project full time rather than outside our main careers. If we do not get funded, I believe we will still move forward, just at a slower rate (with the potential to rekickstart once more progress is made etc).

While I can't talk about past projects without coming public I can talk about my skill set.

I spend most of my time between C++ and C#. I have quite a bit of experience day to day with web services also (SS flexed with JSON/SOAP), JS etc. I worked on my first game when I was 14ish after teaching myself C one weekend. ( 10+ years ago :( ).

My weaknesses related to this project are that I'm more experienced with DirectX (useless for this cross platform project) and a lack of time. I have personally never worked on a game with this much public exposure from the start, which is a little scary (not the scope of the project, just the do or die nature of it all I suppose. I believe we all feel this is a make it or break it scenario for us, we want to be working on great games full time without the 'useless' studio overhead.).

The project timeline does frighten me. I'm not going to lie about that. I do feel we can have a base game released by then, and then work on integrating updates for more features post-release but I know how one little snag can cause huge delays so yes, it is a concern.

I will check in on threads from time to time, but I want to stay focused on getting work done on this project and the one I am wrapping. (It's amazing how fast time flies)

Ok, sorry everyone. I finished the forum at 4 this morning. The rest of the team will be dropping in today to tell a little about themselves. Now that we have this forum up, you can talk to them directly, and not only hear from me. Which is good for me, I can finally get a little sleep.

About me:

I graduated in from Full Sail in Orlando Fl in 1999 with a degree in computer animation. After graduating I spent some time working on childrens television shows as a high poly modeler. Then after working a few cancelled console titles, I finally landed at Greylan studios in 2009. Where I lead a growing team building mobile games for IOS and Android. We have shipped several games, and are currently in production on 2 others. I should probably be worried about losing my job with them if word gets out on this kickstarter, but at this point we see a real shot on this game being funded, so I am willing to risk it for the shot to finish what we have started with Civitas.

As for my skills, I am a complete generalist with a core strength in modeling low and high resolution. I can program when needed, rig and animate, but I love to model. I will be running lead Civitas, and will do my best to keep us on track and grow the team to get this project completed and make sure that it is something we can all be proud of. I feel confident in the rest of my team to be able to deliver, and we will get help when we need it. I will be modeling a lot of the game assets, as well as writing the exporters made to get your models and assets into the game. I also handle the terraforming aspect of the game. Lots of hats to wear, but I enjoy it all, and I have a great team to lean on.

I have been slaving over this kickstarter for the last few days, I have literally only slept for one night since Monday (I can see sounds at this point). People severely underestimate how much work goes into these things, just like we did. Thats ok though, we are getting to where we need to be now, and with these forums, the rest of the team can take over some of the heavy lifting, and we can get some good ideas going. I will be adding my photo to the kickstarter today with my bio (as soon as a few of the other team members get in here and tell who they are), but if you want to see my beautiful face immediately feel free to look at my facebook page that I have linked to the kickstarter, I promise you won't be disappointed lol.

Thank you all once again, we hope we can reach funding so that we can deliver this amazing game to everyone!

The other team members will be dropping in throughout the day and telling a little bit about themselves. I hope you will take the time to get to know them. After they post their bios here, we will take photos and get them on the kickstarter site as well. This should have happened a while ago I know, and we are taking care of it now. This is one thing that needed to be put to rest a lot earlier. We have a few that can't talk about their exact current job, because they will probably lose it if it gets out that they are coming onboard with us, and with the publicity we already have there is a good chance of that. Anyone that has ever been in a job switching situation should understand that. If not, then theres not a lot I can do. We would have to know for sure that we had our funding before they could be more open than they can now. Hopefully we will reach that point.

I will be working on a few things today with one of the programmers (hes a hardcore statistics guy, and he has some great ideas on data modeling for the main simulations), Mark George, if you guys want, he and I will make a pitch video and put it up on the kickstarter. He will be posting on here today as well. Just let me know, and we'll put a video together and see if we can get some of the other team members to come out on a Sunday and join in. Sound like a plan?

A quick blurb about Mark George until he gets here. He is a software engineer for a major financial institution, with a hardcore left brain mentality. He is exactly the type of person we need for this project. Someone that can analyze a lot of data. This is what will make or break this game. I will let him come on and tell about where he graduated and has worked and such, just wanted to get a little out on. He does not come from a gaming background (other than playing them hardcore), he comes from a number crunching background, which is perfect for us.

Yes! I would definitely like to here a lot more about the simulation side of things, as that is the part that I'm unsure a small, indie team would be able to accomplish well. Please put out more information on that.
